I gave 3 of these to my 3 grandsons (ages 6, 6 & 8) and they were so excited. My son even teared up a bit when they read the inscription. The only flaw I think worth mentioning is the lids are not as heavy duty as I would have liked. That being said, they are kind of perfect. The boys can use them and learn orienteering (which their father/uncle loves to teach) and the compasses were inexpensive enough that if they break them it will still have been worth every penny.

The compasses were for our two grandsons ages 11 and 13. They both thought they were the neatest things they'd ever seen. That so warmed our hearts.
Oddly enough, we gave the 13 year old a survival kit. In it was a compass just like the grandson one but without the sentiment in it. Needless to say, he loved the grandson one the most.
